Chef Nicholas Batey has been serving up delicious meals and bites in the DMV since 1997. Born and raised in the DMV, Chef Nick’s passion for cooking was inspired by his late grandmother, Elease Batey.
He left his studies of Mechanical Engineering to attend and graduate from an American culinary institute in Pittsburgh, PA. While working as Sous Chef for acclaimed restaurants, That’s Amoré (Rockville, MD) and Michael Jordan Steakhouse at Grand Central Station (New York), Chef Nick dreamed of opening his own restaurant. In 2005, he purchased The Bicycle in Federal Hill, Baltimore, MD.
The Bicycle was well loved within the community and highly regarded by locals and Zagat for its cuisine, which encouraged Chef Nick to open Ullswater.
Ullswater was an ode to his love for Italian fare and served everything made from scratch. Unfortunately, with the recession, both restaurants were forced to close.
Hilton Hotel and Resorts recruited Chef Nick to be their Executive Chef/Food & Beverage Director for their Hilton Complex concept in Rockville, MD
Hilton allowed Chef Nick to really get into the world of catering and learn the what it takes to make sure that the guests not only go home happy, but go home full. Regardless of the event, Chef Nick learned to handle it with style. From business meetings and conventions to birthday parties and wedding receptions, Chef Nick has catered an array of cultures and cuisines, understanding how to pay homage to each in their own respects and allow guests to have a variety of flavors to choose from.
Chef Nick was then recruited to be the Executive Chef at the highly acclaimed Whiteface Lodge, a five diamond resort in Upstate New York. Here, is where Chef Nick really honed in his passion for providing guests with their dream experiences at their events.
Despite continued success in New York, Chef Nick felt the call of home and returned to Hilton to oversee their Food & Beverage operations.
When the pandemic hit, he was trying to figure out ways to get his culinary mojo back. Chef Nick came to realize that this was his opportunity to get back to being his own boss and began the process of purchasing a food truck, thus B-More Mojo was born!
Bmore Mojo is family affair, making it uniquely a Veteran, Woman, and Black family owned business. Most times you can see Pops on the truck, taking your order. B-More Mojo has since been so successful in its ventures that Chef Nick decided it’d be only natural to add full service and on the go catering options and meal planning services as part of his next entrepreneurial phase. B-More Mojo Food Truck now offers up their menu and various bespoke experiences to weddings, birthdays, religious events, wineries, breweries & more. Chef Nick is excited for this next step and can’t wait to see what this next phase brings B-More Mojo!
